Vintage Costume Jewelry

Coro is one of our all time favorite jewelry designers here at Booth 11. Designs tend to be feminine and graceful even on the larger, heavier, earlier items. We recommend that people interested in Coro jewelry read the books American Costume Jewelry: 1935-1950 and A Tribute to America - Costume Jewelry 1935-1950 by Carla Ginelli Brunialti and Roberto Brunialti which we have used as a reference for some of the information provided on this site about costume jewelry companies.

Coro Vermeil Sword Brooch:

Coro produced three different styles of many of their costume jewelry items to suit every pocket book. There was a least expensive design, a semi-expensive design, and an expensive design which was also top quality and style. This is one of their higher end sword brooch designs.

Unsigned Coro:

Even though Coro employed a large variety of signatures or marks, some items were left blank. Also, from time to time, you may find one part of a Coro duette which is unsigned but identical to a Coro design. Because the "frame" was the piece that was signed, when the clips become separated from it they may only be able to be attributed to the correct company and designer by design detail and possibly the patent number. Be careful dating items by patent number though as it may only apply to the clip mechanism and not the actual design.
