This
rare fur clip is by Bill Ilfeld. There is very little
information available about this designer however, we
managed to find record of a William Ilfeld who's family
were Jewish pioneers in New Mexico. In 2000, the Durango
Herald ran a story about a new exhibit in Santa Fe that
highlights Jewish pioneers. In that article, Bill Ilfeld
was mentioned as the designer of a silver powder flask
(1870.) We also managed to find one other example of
Bill Ilfeld's work on page 100 of the book, "Silver
Jewelry Treasures" by Nancy Schiffer.
The
fur clip is made of sterling silver in the shape of
a flower which has a genuine malachite center. An adorable
bug rests on the side and shows off his amethyst belly.
In
excellent condition with light surface wear and a moderate
patina.
